Abstract

The purpose of this research was to examine the satisfaction of athletes’ participation in individual and team sports and to relate it to their attitudes towards coaching behavior. Also check whether there will be differences between individual and team sports as well as between male and female athletes. The sample consisted of 198 athletes / behavior shows, that 45 football players, 60 volleyballs, judo 38 and 55 tennis, aged 13 to 20 years. The athletes were classified into two categories depending on their gender (M / F). In the research were used the following questionnaires: a) the questionnaire Coaching Behaviour (CBQ, Coaching Behavior Questionnaire, Williams, et al., 2003) and b) Scale of Athletic Satisfaction (Athletes Satisfaction Scale), which was adapted in Greek population by Bebetsos and Theodorakis, (2003). Dependent variables are the dimensions of the questionnaire Coaching Behaviour: Supportive behavior and Negative behavior and the dimensions of Satisfaction Questionnaire: satisfaction with leadership and satisfaction from personal performance. The results of the survey seemed that the reliability of the Cronbach alpha questionnaires showed satisfactory values for all factors: “Supportive Behavior” .86, “Negative Behavior” .85, “Leadership” .80, “Personal Performance” .78. One-way Anova also showed that there were no statistically significant differences between boys and girls in one factor (p <.01) of the two questionnaires. In conclusion, coaches in order to help athletes to cope with the demands and pressure of the race should control their behavior, adopt a supportive attitude for athletes, and avoid nervous reactions during the race.
