Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate certain psychological skills of Greek table tennis athletes. The sample consisted of 152 athletes from all over Greece (108 men, 44 women). For the assessment of their psychological skills, the ACSI-28 questionnaire, adapted for the Greek public by Goudas, Theodorakis and Antoniou (1996) was used. The sample was divided by sex, age, and weekly training session. All sub-scales of the questionnaire had internal consistency, with Crompach’s alpha ranging from .68 to .82. Analysis of variance showed that, with regard to “Coping with Adversity”, girls had higher scores than boys. Results also indicated that “Weekly Practice-time” had a significant effect on the factors of “Goal Setting” and “Confidence”. The results showed that ASCI-28 is a reliable tool for recording the psychometric properties of Greek table tennis athletes.

Keywords: Age; Weekly training; Goal setting; Confidence; Freedom from worries.
